Rembrandt and an Explanation

"It is the head of an old lion at bay, worn and melancholy, yet conscious of his strength, determined and a little defiant."

Rembrandt van Rijn painted one of his best self-portraits in 1658. Bankrupt and nearing the end of his life, he dared to dress himself in fine, exotic clothes and hold a silver staff. It is one of the greatest portraits ever painted by the master.

I started drawing self-portraits each day so that I could understand myself as a woman, become more comfortable with my body, and improve my drawing/cartooning. They are simple doodles usually, not masterpieces, but I draw them for myself and not for an assignment or exercise.
